Case study:
Gascoigne Estate, Barking
Gascoigne Estate, Barking
Transforming the east side of the 1960s Gascoigne estate into a modern, environmentally friendly community.
E2 will see 159 homes constructed as part of the regeneration of Gascoigne East. The £56m development will connect four blocks, with a courtyard situated between.
Once completed the £79m development of ‘F1’ and ‘F2’ will provide 223 new homes across five blocks, along with public realm open space and infrastructure providing green social areas for residents.
A key aspect of this development will be its sustainable and cycle-friendly credentials, with a targeted 40 per cent cut in CO2 emissions from energy produced by the homes against what normally would be expected by Building Regulation thanks to an array of rooftop photovoltaic cells and connection to the district heating system. There are also plans for over 1,000 cycle parking spaces.
The redevelopment of Gascoigne estate is part of a wider strategy to create a sense of ‘place’ for the area that includes attractive, tree-lined public spaces and the 5,000 square metre Gascoigne Square park filled with public art and striking designs in a mixture of traditional and modern styles.
