Resin Bound Surfaces
Resin bound is a fully-bound gravel surface used for driveways, footpaths, public parks and hard landscaping schemes in all sorts of commercial and healthcare settings.
Resin bound surfacing is manufactured in a wide range of aggregates. The aggregate is completely coated in a clear polyurethane resin. The resulting mixture is poured onto the prepared substrate and trowelled by hand to achieve a perfectly level and seamless upper surface.
We can also supply a resin bond surface system and there are a vast range of edgings in granite or brindle colours to choose from.
What are the benefits of resin bound surfaces?
Resin bound surfaces are one of the most cost effective ways of improving your existing tarmac or concrete surface.
- Perfect for driveways, paths and other outdoor areas
- Highly durable
- No cracks
- No puddles
- Low maintenance
- Wide range of colours available
- Anti-slip properties
- Weed resistant
- Finest kiln dried aggregate
- Approved accredited installer
- Resin bound surface guarantee
One key advantage of resin-bound gravel surfaces is that they are permeable and SUDS-compliant, because of the way the system is mixed. You gain the aesthetic of a gravel surface, with none of the inconvenience and accessibility issues. Rainwater can still pass through, if the resin-bound system is applied to a porous subbase. It can equally be applied to existing tarmac or concrete surfaces.
The final surface is unaffected by UV light, so the colour won’t fade, and has excellent resistance to spills, weeds and frost.
Resin-bound paving is also slip-resistant, making it ideal for use in courtyards and hard landscaping around care homes and healthcare settings in particular, and safer for pedestrians in any environment. A resin-bound surface will retain its anti-slip properties even with regular power-washing.
What’s the difference between resin-bound vs resin-bonded?
Resin-bound surfaces are distinctly different to resin-bonded surfaces. Resin-bonded surfaces are achieved with loose gravel added to a resin layer.
This means three things: the top surface is textured rather than smooth, which may be less comfortable and accessible for wheelchair users; it’s non-porous, so water can collect on the surface even with careful gradients and ample channel drains; and it’s much more likely to degrade and break up, especially under vehicle traffic. Resin-bonded surfaces may also be vulnerable to frost.
Diverse Screed is an approved installer for both The Resin Mill and Addagrip, which means guarantees of up to 25 years and a huge array of aggregates to create a suitable effect for any design scheme.

Resin Bound Surfaces FAQs
More than you might think. Resin-bonded is loose gravel with a resin layer. It gives a textured surface, it’s non-porous and can break up over time. Resin-bound involves a manufacturing process whereby each grain of aggregate is coated in resin; it results in a totally smooth finish which can also be porous to allow for drainage.
